ARTHUR LEO TAYLOR

ARTHUR LEO TAYLOR is a native of Washington, DC where he graduated from the Duke Ellington School of the Arts in Theater.  He then moved on to attend and graduate from Philadelphia’s University of the Arts with a BFA in Theater Arts having studied tap from the legendary Master Tap teacher LaVaughn Robinson. He taught dance at many area dance schools including PHILADANCO and Point Breeze Performing Arts Center. Arthur is a founding member of Philadelphia’s original Tap dance company TAP TEAM TWO & Company, where he and his partner Robert F. Burden Jr. were honored as Artists of the Year for YOUNG AUDIENCES INC. in 2000.  Arthur and Robert were also members of the Fly Squad of the smash hit RIVERDANCE where they performed in Rotterdam, Holland, the Netherlands and Berlin, Germany.  Mr. Taylor was honored to create choreography and dance for a video for Hidden Beach Records artist Jeff Bradshaw’s SLIDE which featured the directorial premier of Grammy award winning Neo-Soul artist Jill Scott who also appeared in the video as seen on MTV, VH1, BET and BET on JAZZ. Mr. Taylor also choreographed the Road Company/ Grand Theater of Williamstown, New Jersey’s production of THE COLOR PURPLE for their 2014 season and won the NJACT Perry Award for Best Choreography.     Arthur is a member of the NAACP and co founded the ACT-SO mentorship program at the GLOUCESTER/CAMDEN COUNTY BRANCH. He is also a proud  member of the International Association of Blacks in Dance. Arthur is also a founder and Executive/ Co-Artistic Director of IMAGINE…DANCE THEATER with his wife Shawnta Smith-Taylor. His production, THE NUBIAN NUTCRACKER, which he wrote, directed and co-choreographed was performed at the CLARIDGE HOTEL CASINO in Atlantic City to 6 sold out shows. Arthur was also selected as the 2020 Teacher of the Year at Pleasantville High School where he has directed several productions. Arthur directed the Grand Theater of Williamstown, NJ’s 2023 production BEEHIVE and the 2022 Spring production, A RAISIN IN THE SUN and directed Tyrell Lewis’ PAPA MAY HAVE for the Grand Theater’s 2nd Annual JUNETEENTH CELEBRATION. This year he will be teaming up with his wife Shawnta as she choreographs and he directs FOR COLORED GIRLS WHO HAVE CONSIDERED SUICIDE WHEN THE RAINBOW IS ENUF.
